Digital Engagement #7
Internet of Things Log: Saturday, October 19th 2024
9:00am- I turned off my alarm and opened my phone. Opening my phone has been the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning for as long as I can remember.
11:23am- I went to the farmers market with a friend. I used my debit card to purchase a Tumbler cup.
12:12pm- After my trip to the farmers market, I head back to my dorm, using my EagleOne card to enter the building, and spent some time doing homework on my Windows PC. I continue to use my phone throughout the day to text my mom, listen to music, and talk to friends on social media. I also use Bluetooth to connect my headphones to my phone to listen to my music.
2:38pm- For lunch, I walked to the Chipotle near our campus. Again, I used my debit card to purchase my meal, and used my EagleOne card to enter into my dorm when I got back.
3:05pm- After lunch, I went to the HCC to use the computer lab to edit a video production project using Adobe Premiere Pro. I brought my hard drive to connect to the computer I chose in order to save the videos I used while editing. After I finished editing, I used my EagleOne again to head back to my dorm and take a nap.
6:10pm- I used my EagleOne card to swipe into the dining hall to get dinner. I then used it again to go back into my room.
9:27pm- I called my girlfriend on Discord using my pc, and she used her Steam Deck. I also used my pc to stream YouTube videos for us to watch.
I went to bed around midnight. Overall, I was surprised at how few internet-related “things” I used throughout the day since I have always viewed myself as a very internet-obsessed individual. However, I think it is important to note that this log does not consider how LONG I use things like my phone and my computer. For example, before I went to the farmers market, I used my phone for about an hour and a half in the morning. While I do not use a large number of “things” connected to the internet, the few things I do use take up a large amount of my time.
